someone is walking down the stairs and slips / falls they will crack their

heads on this concrete mantel. l was thinking l should cushion it and cover
it to make it as decorative as possible, but more importantly not a safety
hazard.

Any suggestions??.. This is once again concrete, so l
have NO idea how to do this.

Thanks in advance!

You can cover it with fabric. That is very decorative.

Concrete presents a bit of a problem.

You could use Carpet Tack Strip. Those contain ''concrete nails'' which

can be driven into concrete. This would be done along the top/ceiling, &

along the bottom, as well as sides.
These strips also have tacks with pointed ends exposed.
Those are used to attach carpet along the walls.

If you use those, you can buy a cushioned underlayment which would have to
be adhered to the wall with adhesive & flush to the tack strips.
That done, you can then attach ur fabric to the strip at the top. Stretch
the fabric down to the bottom strip, then to each side, on the strip. It
can be attached to the tacks as described above. Be sure to hammer down
the points of the tacks. If needed, the fabric can also be stapled to the
wood strips. Be sure that the edges of the fabric are turned/hemmed.
This takes osme care.

You won't find fabric wide enough to cover the entire wall & will have to
sew strips together.
You will want to center a seam on the wall & work to the sides.

If you want to staple the seams down the wall, for a panel effect, you
will need to put some strips perpendicular down the wall in the proper
location of the seams.
I hope you can follow me.

You can hire that done, but it won't be cheap.

A candy stripe fabric looks good on a padded wall, but florals also, to
complement ur decor or carpet.

Added note:
If the wall is marble or other, & not plain concrete, you will have to
glue the tack strips, not nail them. To do that, remove the concrete
nails, then use contact cement to adhere the wood strips. This can be
done in any event without nailing.

If gluing the strips, do not glue the entire piece. They are 4 feet in
length. Cut them into 12 inches or so. This will assure that if one
loosens, 4 feet will not come loose.

Good luck.
